I’m by no means a music critic, but I had the opportunity to attend the Corinne Bailey Rae concert this past Thursday at the New Daisy, on Beale Street here in Memphis, and I just have to say that she really puts on a great show. Not only is she multi-talented (plays multiple instruments) but her voice is phenomenal! Of course, her CDs are incredible, but nothing beats her sweet personality in combination with her beautiful voice singing live. She was backed by a terrific band – Musical director/keyboardist: Steve Brown, Drummer/backing vocalist: Luke Flowers, Guitarist/backing vocalist: John McCallum, Bassist: Kenny Higgins and Guitarist/backing vocalist: Jennifer Birch. The majority of the songs were from her new album,The Sea, but I was pleased to hear some my favorites from her first self titled album, Corinne Bailey Rae, as well. She even did a nice little Reggae number, as well as a few classic favorites of hers (i.e. I Only Have Eyes For You). Oh and remember this if you decide to attend a performance – don’t leave too early, just when we thought it was over, she came back out to sing one last song, saying “You didn’t think I was going to leave you like that did you?”
I was very impressed by the diverse crowd that came to enjoy Corinne Bailey Rae’s music. Oh and on a side note: the natural hair crowd really represented here in Memphis. Of course, Corinne Bailey Rae’s hair is always gorgeous and she wore it full during the performance.
Here are a few pictures taken by my sister Co during the concert:
I wanted to mention that I also enjoyed the first act that performed before Corinne. The group was Velvet Kente (http://facebook.com/velvetkentemusic ). I don’t think that many of the concert goers gave this group much of a chance (at least those sitting close to where we were sitting) because they were anxious for Corinne Bailey Rae to come out, and with the concert being on a Thursday night, I think many people wanted to get home as soon as possible because they had to work the next day. I, on the other hand really enjoyed the music. The lead singer sort of reminded me of Wyclef Jean at times. Look this group up on Youtube to hear a bit of their sound. You just may like it. Here’s a few pictures that I took of Velvet Kente:
Occasionally, I like to write about things other than hair, just because there is more to life than just hair. Anyway, my secret love is the Sims 3. I’ve been a Sims Franchise fan for a long time now. I usually don’t let people know about that, but I’m here to confess… I love playing the Sims!!
I’m sure there are more Sims fans out there (and if there are, please let me know where I can find natural hair styles!!). Well, I created a blog regarding my Sims 3 habit called Sims 3: Family Moments. If you are a Sims fan, be sure to check it out. If you don’t even know what the heck the Sims even are, that may be an even better reason to check out the site.

My name is Coco and I am a product junkie. I may be off that creamy crack but I am now a product junkie. It is hard for me to go to a store and not come out without some type of hair product. However, I probably spend less money than I did at the salon when I was on that creamy crack so I don’t feel so bad.
I just had to write a review about this book, Catching the Wild Waiyuuzee (Written by Rita Williams-Garcia, Illustrated by Mike Reed), because it has definitely become one of my two-year-old daughter’s favorites.
It is a lovely story about a mother-daughter relationship that begins as sort of an adventure. Shemama has to capture the Wild Waiyuuzee and wet her with her jumbo sprayer, oil her with her nut-nut oil and tame her with her “piney pig’s tail”.
The story ends in a cute surprise that I don’t want to give away. This is a story that mothers and daughters (or sons) will be able to relate to and will probably enjoy for years. The book has absolutely gorgeous illustrations that my two-year-old just loves.
I hope you get a chance to purchase and enjoy with your little one!

From time to time I post non hair related interesting links. Lately I’ve been working on posting links for scholarships to the top 5 schools (Top 5 list developed by Diploma Guide.com) in all 50 states in the United States. Breaking Down The Myths
If I Want Her I Can Get Her
Okay, so this weekend I’m kicking it with my business associates, who also happen to be my boys. We are at the market, in the 90 degree weather selling our various goods and as usual there are tons of women coming continue reading …
Welcome to the first installment of Breaking Down the Myths. After thinking and thinking and thinking about what to write in this section, I finally came up with a series of questions that should have done the trick and allowed me to write a long series of articles, but they all became small next to the idea of breaking down the myths associated with relationships. When we all look at it, after reading the books and articles and listening to all of the radio personalities who claim to be relationship experts, continue reading …
